Oranges Can Reduce Stroke Risk

Oranges Can Reduce Stroke Risk

A new study finds that citrus fruits can reduce the risk of strokes in women

Add oranges to your list of must-eat superfoods.

Looks like us females will have to add citrus fruits onto the "healthy things to always eat" list.

A new study in the April issue of Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association found that women who ate the most citrus fruits were 19 percent less likely to have an ischemic stroke.

Fruits in general are healthy, obviously, but researchers broke down the study into different types of fruits, finding that not all fruits have the same effect.

The key in citrus fruits is a compound called flavanones, which the new study linked to a lower stroke risk. Study researcher Aedín Cassidy told Live Science that flavanones help improve blood vessel health and counter inflammation.

Unfortunately, researchers say women should eat whole fruits rather than juices, but that doesn't mean you can't try all our amazing citrus recipes. It'll probably count for something.

9 Safe, Natural Blood Thinners To Reduce Blood Clots (Thrombosis) And Risk of Stroke

Have you ever gone for a blood test, and when the needle is inserted into your veins to draw out blood, the blood doesn’t flow out smoothly? If that happened, you know you have thick, coagulated blood.

Before you start taking a blood thinning tablet, you need to understand WHY you have thick blood and what you can do about it. I believe in always treating the root cause of a problem, instead of taking a pill to try to dissolve or suppress a symptom.
